  • Ingenious inventions, experimental tinkering and
    flashes of inspiration

    May 13 – November 5, 2023

The bicycle, trampoline, car, jeans, skateboard, cotton candy – these and everything around us except for nature had to be invented. But by whom? And why? And what was the world’s first invention?

Embark on an exciting journey into the world of inventions and get to know the people behind the ideas. Those inventors that urgently needed something that didn’t yet exist and suddenly had a flash of inspiration! Some inventions took a long time to develop, some were an accident, others a coincidence.

When did the very first wheel roll, when was the first car driven? Who built the first telescope and how did it work? Who invented paper, who printed the first book? Why were people afraid of the first steam locomotive? How did you use the phone when it was first invented? And did the first computer look like it does today?

Discover interesting, exciting and even funny invention stories at many hands-on stations. Try out the inventions yourself to learn more about them. You may have to create or finalize them yourself in order to test their efficiency.

Find out what inventions meant to people in the past, which ones are important today and what inventions still need to be invented. What ideas do you have? What do you want to invent?
Go on the hunt for inspiration – and become an inventor too!

For this exhibition you should be able to read, or bring someone along who can read to you!
